Distance Education Modernization Project (ADB Funded)

Project Overview
A $60 million Asian Development Bank funded project aimed at significantly increasing access to post-secondary education in Sri Lanka.
Key Objectives
- Establish 26 computer centres, NOC, and Disaster Recovery Site including LAN/WAN installations.
- Successfully complete the nationwide biometric project installation across all districts.
- Manage technical committees, project steering committee, and progress review meetings.
- Coordinate the development of NODES ERP/Management Information System.
Key Achievements
- Guided construction, procurement, and equipment installation for 26 computer centres.
- Installed and configured fingerprint machines in 26 centres with a centralized server in Colombo.
- Recruited and arranged residential training programs for 54 IT staff across all districts.
- Prepared MoUs with public and private institutions for technical and student-related collaborations.
Project Impact
Significantly increased access to post-secondary education through online distance learning.
Established a robust IT infrastructure that was successfully transferred to NODES.
Built national capacity for distance education delivery and management.
